Tonight has been a complete mind fuck. I was over the moon when Axel invited me. I thought it meant that I was someone important in his life or he was starting to open up to the idea of us actually being more than just secret fuck-buddies. I was worth introducing to his family and colleagues, but now I'm not so sure. I don't get these people. It feels like there is some game going on around me that I don't know the rules to. Fuck the rules, I don't even know what the game is called. But they all do. Axel, Hendrix, Piper, and her brother, they all have an agenda, reasons for playing this game. Even April is some sort of a pawn in the overall contest.

I wish Axel would talk to me properly so I could understand, but instead he throws me little scraps of information when I beg for it. How on earth does a business relationship get to the point that one partner kills the other? It's just insanity to me.

We walk through the front door to the apartment. After our fight out front of the venue, we haven't spoken another word to each other. He spent the ride home pensive, that serious look on his face as he angrily messaged someone on his phone. I can only assume it must have been his brother, because I was also on my phone answering texts of concern from Maeve. She is just as deep in this shit as I am, but she seems to know more than I do. Hendrix must be better at opening up or something, because she's not surprised by any of it, and it makes me wonder why she is hiding stuff from me as well. Has he sworn her to secrecy, and now because they're having a baby, she has to side with him over her friend no matter what? I don't care what relationship I have with any man, my girlfriends will still always be important enough that I would fill them in on anything that seemed this important.

I kick off my heels and go straight for the stairs, in need of a shower. Axel heads for the kitchen, and I can hear him pouring a drink. Good, it'll give me a minute to gather my thoughts before I have to deal with him again. I'm not even sure if I want to be here with him tonight. Not like I really have a choice, my place isn't an option anymore. I miss so much having my own space to disappear to, with all my things that just felt like me. This place is perfection, but it's the kind of a place that is nice to visit for a night, not live in, and I'm starting to grow tired of being here long-term.

I slip out of my beautiful dress and place it over the armchair then pad into the bathroom, enjoying the plush feel of the carpet on my bare feet after a night in ridiculously high heels.
